Bob Beers for Governor

Spending Control

Bob Beers is the father of Nevada's TASC amendment.

TASC (short for Tax And Spending Control) proposes to limit government spending hikes to a reasonable growth rate, unless voters approve a bigger hike.

Nevada's state and local governments are expanding far more rapidly than Nevada, it's economy, and its population are expanding.

Americans for Tax Reform says Nevada's state tax hikes per capita were second only to New Jersey from 2002-2005. By expressing this measure on a "per capita" basis, the impact of our famous population growth is leveled out to make an apples-to-apples comparison with other states.

What have we done with the money? According to the US Census Bureau, Nevada's employees of local governments - armed with special union empowerments in state law and the glut of local government cash caused by rapid jumps in property taxes - now rank first, second, third or fourth out of fifty states in compensation, depending on which job classification is being compared.

The TASC amendment is Nevada's last chance to force government to look for internal efficiencies, obsolete programs and duplication of services rather than simply rely on rapidly expanding revenue to feed its hunger.

Your Help Is Needed

Bob Beers has proposed amending the Constitution to each of the last two sessions of the Nevada Legislature. Both times, the measure has been killed in the Senate Finance committee. TASC is so important, however, that Beers plans to continue to introduce it. Supporting Bob Beers' re-election is the best way to get the legislature to listen.
