I beleive the state Should Allow a Tax On Any And All Money Transfers Between Mexico and Central America. Maybe 8% Or So. This Would Decrease The ILLEGAL Immigrant Population In Our state that Contribute's To Their Abuse of Our Medical Facilities,The Education Of Their illegal Children In OUR Schools,The Housing costs,The Prison Population Etc,etc.

To Lee S. Giddon Jr.

So you believe just because somebody is earning money the honest way, in a free exchane of transactions, you have a right to some of his / their money??

How much do you think is a fair share for companies or individuals, and just how much would your own "fair share" be. Are you paying any taxes at all, or are you on the dole from the state??

Just last week the RJ was headlining an article in their Business section saying...Casinos haul in a $2.5 BILLION in a month!

What shortfall? Get the Casinos to pay a FAIR SHARE! Lordy...won't anybody listen?

I tire of the constant demand that Government "take care of stuff". The more we count on that, the more we are disappointed. People must learn to solve their own problems. Some level of police, fire, military (on the national level) and minimal administrative support for Government are prudent, but current levels are way out of proportion. Most people I know expect this support to be supplied to them free of charge. No anticipation of any personal sacrifice is evident in their demands. While we are anxious to volunteer quite a bit, in general, to help our fellow man, we are taxed into oblivion and barely able to take care of our own families. Nevertheless, the answer to our problems lies with the citizens, not the Government.

It is clear that the current Nevada "crisis" lies fully in the overestimation of tax income and the counting on this income to fill the trough. We all know that there is a great deal of social engineering and waste in Government work, all in the name of panering for votes. One day, we will run out of clever tricks to continue this charade, but the longer it takes for this to happen, the more devastating the result will be. "Think of all the jobs that will be lost", "think of the children" ring from the mouths of bleeding heart politicians when the real answer is for these very people to develop skills and attitudes of service which made this country strong. Each citizen must contribute to the betterment of society and be in control of the Government (not the Government in control of them, as is evident now). Listen to our current slate of presidential candidates and tell me if you hear any part of this message. If you say you do, it is a lie.

The only crisis we have is the feeling among the populace, and propigated by most politicians that "Government services" are the answer to all problems. I hate to break this to you, but this method has a political term......it is called SOCIALISM, and it does not work!!

Every four or five years state government agencies should be required to fully justify the existence of every committee and subcommittee they have and have used. After retiring from federal civil service I took a job with the State of Nevada and was astonished at how much waste of time and resources I saw. The department I was working in had an almost permanent working group of employees who did nothing but had meetings to discuss everything from office parties to how to change procedures. Some of these sessions took the committees to Las Vegas for "group fact finding" events. I was told at one of the Las Vegas meetings the State Director came in, talked for about ten minutes the first day and left. The second day, during his next ten minute presentation, he talked about his golfing the previous day! It is easy enough for managers to submit explanations for their internal activities but shouldn't someone be asking why and if it is/was really necessary. Working groups with definite goals and objectives are a great way to get things done but standing committees, lacking adequate mandates, are a financial burden tax payers should not be burdened with.

It is my understanding the the state has something called assets. One never reads anything about them but, according to recent reports all governments in the USA have about $110 TRILLION in assets. I'm sure Nevada has a couple of dollars worth.
From time to time I've had to sell some of my assets to pay the bills. Maybe it's time for the state to do the same.
