Welfare Expansion
January 24th, 2008The Interim Finance Committee today approved expanding the “Senior RX” program into dental and vision benefits - benefits more extravagant than people relying on Medicare receive.
The motion was made to give this to recipients up to 250% of the federal poverty level, which would have eliminated the program’s reserve within two years. The program is funded by a shrinking revenue source - the tobacco settlement.
The millenium scholarship program has already gone broke with its share of the tobacco settlement. The Legislature chose to continue the program with tax hikes.
I voiced my opposition, and at least got the motion amended to change the eligibility threshhold to 150% of the poverty level. This would push the date that Senior RX goes broke out past the two year mark, making it a future legislature’s problem.
I voted no.

Thanks for the NO vote Bob. Can anyone explain how we get so many socialist/communist in our many layers of government? It’s just unbelievable what they can come up with.

According to our Government, I am rich. I don’t feel rich since I have to pedal hard every day to survive and support a family (even though we are a two-income family). The easy thing to do is stop getting visible income, so I can apply for all the programs. What a life, welfare without responsibility. Drug dealers do this extensively until they get caught and have to go to criminal training is a pretty posh environment at prison. Guess what happens when they get out? Who would not be attracted to this deal? I’ll tell you who. Those of us who still believe America’s best days are still ahead. Those who feel some responsibility to control their lives and support their families despite the pressures to “take the easy way out”. Although I have health insurance, I can only affort medical help in an emergency and, even then, I usually cannot wait long enough to be seen that I just leave. Perscriptions? Who cares what they cost. The Government will pay all but $5 for those on the inside track (medicare and medicaid). The drug companies can charge whatever they want (and they want plenty) to the Government for the rest. Do the recipients care? Of course not, “President Bush is verry verry good to me”.
Thanks for stopping some of this Bob, although, it looks to me like you have very little help. Dare I hope for a Senate run in 2010??? Anybody else out there think this is a good idea??

Someone is TRYING to find ways of SPENDING MONEY WE DO NOT HAVE! Budget ’shortfall’ yet, GIVE THEM MORE BENEFITS! What gives?
I live on Social Security alone and not on any DOLE! Why should a welfare recipient gwet benefitas not available to anyone but themselves? The answer is easy…THEY SHOULD NOT! The Dems are, again, trying to BUY VOTERS among the ‘takers’ with their ‘womb to tomb’ welfare ideas!

Bob:
Again, give us the list of the members of this committee, and their e-mail addresses.
I had no idea we had these loose canons between the legislative sessions.

Mr Senator thank you for the no vote. In this Democratic sea of spend crazy screaming banshees, I’m very gratefull you are there in Carson City to at least point out and stand against this insanity.

Thanks for the No Vote, but you know sometimes that is not enough. I think it is the responsability of a public servant to inform the public what is going on behind closed doors. How many Nevadans know what happened, I know I didn’t. We know the media doesn’t want us to know what is going on, so it is up to the Representatives of the people to use the media to inform the public.

Perhaps we wouldn’t need so much welfare if we weren’t putting people in prisons who don’t NEED to be there. Taking a mother from her child for writing bad checks? Taking a father, the sole provider, away because he made a bad choice in friends and was present when a murder accurred? Is HE a ‘violent’ person because he SAW it happen? Yup, he is labeled a ‘VIOLENT’ person forever and will do 10-life (20 if the Parole Board has their way), while not being able to provide for his family, that leaves the state and welfare to take the burden (you and I).
Support change in laws, strenthen education (not just throw money at it), promote crime PREVENTION through education, promote FAMILY UNITY, and you will see prison population decline along with welfare.
Start at the start!

Families demise because the Government gets into their business. People would naturally care for their families and help their neighbors (as they did in the first half of our country’s history). The more the Government takes over their lives, the less they have to live for. Families demise because they do not care any more. More Government means less family unity, yet both parties seem to support more Government. This is not hard to understand, people.
