Kirkwood Shooting: What a Tragedy
February 8th, 2008From this dispatch from the newspaper of record in St. Louis, it appears that the grievance that provoked Cookie Thornton to gun down his mayor and city council started with him being ticketed for parking his cars on his own property.
What a tragedy.

Bob,
We are living about 4 miles from Kirkwood which is a picture perfect postcard town in the Midwest. One story you should know is that the Mayor and Council put up with this guy’s antics for years as his right to voice his opinion. He would hold up signs like “Kirkwood is a Plantation”. It is unfortunate but a reality that we are at risk on a daily basis to lunatics like him and I hope this doesn’t provide a knee jerk reaction to curb even more of our freedoms.
Best regards,
Nick Dragan

I quess you won’t have a problem with an unlicensed construction operation, including parked 2-ton trucks, stored equipment and materials, construction workers coming and going, near your house, huh?
Statesman or flame-throwing channeling Ann Coulter; which face are you going to run your re-election on Bob?

Mark, the crazy dude made a big mistake. Instead of acting crazy with the city council, he should have just give them money either under or over the table. He could have park his trucks anywhere he wanted to then. That is how the system works.
The reason why we have city councils and planning meetings is not to prevent some guy from parking his 2 ton trucks on his own land (God forbid that). The reason for all these regulations is for people in power to make money.

The problem isn’t the guy’s trucks or come and go business in a disruptinve manner. The problem is that there was no one to defend against the guy as he gunned down people. Sure he had a problem but his reactions were foolish and not worth lives.
I watched his mother and brother on TV as they sought to justify his deadly actions. How sad.
He must have caught the guards off balance as he killed them then went and shot the pols. Justr think, if one of them (pols) had been armed, that person, upon heraing the shots that killed the guard, could have been prepared and killed the invader the moment he entered the room. Lives would have been saved and that is the gist here!
All in all one could rightly say, ‘chalk a few more deaths up to the gun-control crowd!’
