Bob Beers for Governor

Fiscal Conservative

February 12th, 2008

Next week, everyone is likely to read a comment I made to Steve Sebelius, on tape, as he interviewed me for this weekend’s Las Vegas City Life interview article. You may recall Dina Titus called me the head of a snake two weeks ago when she kicked off the series.

I said, “I am not a fiscal conservative.”

That shocked Sebelius last night, who, despite his good looks, carries a pure, childish trust in Big Brother. Don’t hold it against him - he’s a bit younger than the average voter, and that will pass. He’s got his head in the right place on many issues.

In context, the point of my comment was that political labels trend towards black or white, even though there are many, many shades of gray in between. TASC, for example, was portrayed by anti-capitalist opponents as “extreme fiscal conservatism.” In fact, TASC suggested we should stop increasing the percentage of the economy that is earmarked and wasted by government, in favor of keeping that percentage the same. To me, this represented a grand compromise with the socialists, and was fiscally moderate. Thus, I told Steve, I am a fiscal moderate.

Then, tonight, an article lands in my in-box where Chelsea Clinton, with the wisdom of her couple of dozen years, assures an even more childish Judith Davidoff, small town reporter, that her mom is the most fiscally conservative candidate for President.

If there was ever a case for too much cheese and not enough meat being bad for you, this is it.

Meanwhile, in the next state over, Al Gore is having a tough time convincing the locals to sunbathe in the global warming. And those are naturally pretty pale peope.

The last time I corresponded with Steve Sebelius he was nastily speaking of me being a ‘crazy nut case’ for praising President Bush’s drug paln. He was downright insulting. Tell him I said Hi Sukka!
I am fiacally conservative and anti Illegal Immigration. So…..

Steve Sebeliass is in favor of a Nevada income tax as he
stated to me in an email conversation during his tenure
at the RJ. Later he denied it but I provided the email to him as proof. I AM a fiscal conservative and would love to see
Ron Paul chop the hell out of the federal budget including the
One Trillion per year we spend on our military in 136 countries.

The hype goes on. Too bad Chelsea has been diverted to propaganda. She had such promise.

I like the analogy Reagan made that it is not against the law to be stupid. He was right, and this is as it should be. The corollary to this is that if you are stupid, you should pay the price for your actions. Our current direction seems to be make people stupid so the Government can save them from their actions. The trouble is that the more stupid people you get, the less are available to save them. Does anybody get this?

The fact is that, despite the best efforts of people like Reagan and Bob Beers, no Government is fiscally conservative. There is simply no incentive to be so. People vote for benefits beyond all else, so that is what they are promised. The system goes happily on until it blows (keep blowing up a balloon and see what happens). History then says “oh, well just another failed, oppressive Government”. It seems like we are on the express train to that end and I can guarantee you that there is no benevolent US Government to bail us out when it happens. I just think people should take a look at the obvious. We have fought wars around the world and suffered through our own bloody Civil War to defend our Constitution and the principals of freedom. I just think it would be a shame to give it all up just so some politicians can have some fun and power for awhile. But that seems to be the way the voting public wants it. Thank God I am a bit older, so I had some taste of a land where the Constitution reigns supreme. You younger people need to get a grip and take charge of your future. If you don’t someone else will, and it won’t be pretty.
