Newt Weighs in on Official English
February 15th, 2007Opposition to making English our official language tends to devolve quickly into allegations of racism, though in my legislative experience the first people to hurl allegations of racism are themselves racists.
The other interesting thing I’ve noticed since I agreed to carry Sharron Angle’s “English as our Official Language” legislation is that people who don’t speak english are in support. They seem to ‘get it’ - if you want to do well in America, you must - and you do - learn english. The Chinese teach english to their children. Shouldn’t we teach it to ours?
Newt Gingrich recently weighed in on proposals to make English our official language.
