School Funding: Where Does Nevada Rank?
February 15th, 2007During yesterday morning’s education/finance hearing, the head PR person for the Clark County School District testified that “Nevada ranks 42nd in funding per student, by anyone’s measure.”
Well, not really. The statistic she was citing was from the teachers’ union.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, Nevada ranks 35th amongst the states, not including Washington, DC.
And, unlike the Clark County School District, I cite my sources clearly and openly.

Note that Nevada has very low “current expenditures” and very high “capital expenditures” on a growth-adjusted (per student) basis. This is because Nevada uses some of its “capital” money on things that other states only use their “current” money to purchase.
