The Sky Is Warming!!!
March 6th, 2007I am getting an occasional bit of email suggesting that Nevada needs to take urgent action now to stop global warming. Somewhat tongue in cheek, I occasionally suggest back that I have introduced legislation to reduce the Sun’s energy by 5%.
Here’s some interesting reading on a not-so-cool topic.

During the last Ice Age there was about a mile of ice on a good portion of North America. It melted thousands of years before mankind created industrial greenhouse gases.

Let me first say, I agree with reducing our culture’s impact on our planet and I do believe we should keep our planet in mind when enacting laws and regulations, but I do not believe we should send up the “flares” on global warming.
After I watched Al Gore’s video on global warming, I thought we really need to do something about our society’s emissions. Based on what I watched, I would think our planet’s climate is in chaos and it is solely because of our society’s impact on the Earth. Then the engineer side of me kicked in and said, wait a minute… the data is not flawed, but the perspective he is presenting it in is.
Mr. Gore, asserts that the Earth is warmer now than any other time, which simply is not true. His evidence is only based ice core samples going back 750,000 years. The reason why he uses this number is simple; 750,000 years is the longest (length equals age) ice core scientists currently have. Thus, Mr. Gore’s statement should be, “The Earth is in the warmest period in over the last 750,000 years.”
Now, the last time I checked the Earth was billions of years old, and 750,000 years is a very small percentage when taking into account Earth’s geological history. Even taking into account the last billion years, Earth has had a much warmer temperature. A simple search on “average earth temperature” on the web will yield many results regarding the Earth’s climatic history. If you look at Earth’s average temperature over this time, one would conclude we are actually in a cool period.
As I am trying to keep this short, I will stop here and let you smart people fill in the rest.
Do not let the Democrats fool you with misleading information, the truth is out there.
