Tourism Turns Down
March 11th, 2008For the past six months, the big economic news in Nevada has been the downturn in the non-gaming economy. Home sales are down, and sales of home appliances and improvements are down too. This has been the biggest factor in our government tax revenue not coming in as high as we’d hoped.
The good news throughout had been that tourism was holding steady.
New numbers from the Convention & Visitors Authority show that we no longer have that silver lining.
With tourism now joining residents in economic contraction, our hotel-casinos will now have to “tighten their belts” - leaving government as the only economic sector still “expanding.”

The solution to the economic downturn is to raise taxes. If the government is bigger then more people are working. Brillant!!!!!!!!

YES…and RAISE them on the Casinos. It is their TOURISM that makes nearly everything cost more. Roads, sewage treatment, garbage collection, Police patrolling, water usage, the need for infra-structure updating and more!
As a resident I get nothing special in the way of meal cost, gaming wins, or entertainment from any casino while their earnings continue to be in the HUNDREDS OF MILLION RANGE MONTHLY!

Maybe tourists are sick of $15 drink prices. $1,000 palm greasing to get into a club, overprice meals, ridiculously
priced hotel rooms, everyone with their hand out and my favorite, union culinary strikers who yell obscenities at tourists or spit at them for not supporting their bloated
demands. Las Vegas tourism is in trouble, and they have only
themselves to blame!!!

Stop and think before you advocate taxing “the other guy”. I’m no great fan of the casino industry, but it’s time to draw the line on taxing ANYONE!
If it doesn’t stop, anyone or any entity could be the next target. Remember,there will never be enough money to satisfy our socialist masters.

If casinos were mandated to pay all State and County taxes, our State and County governments would be the most efficient in the country. It would probably result in them paying less taxes than they do now. Just a thought.
