Nevada 4th Worst State In Which To Own A Car
March 14th, 2008Forbes Magazine has published a list of the ten worst states in which to own a car, based on true cost of ownership. Between Nevada’s car taxes and fuel taxes, we ended up in fourth place on the report.
Being a state without an income tax is a double edged sword. On the good side, it makes government funding much more stable than our neighbors who rely on income taxes. The down side is that some of our citizens seem to feel that without an income tax, Nevada citizens are somehow underfunding government. They get to feeling guilty, and call for higher-still taxation.
Our legislature, however, has seen to it that we collect as much as our surrounding states - we just do it more stealthily, just like Forbes found in this study, and ALEC found recently in a much broader study.

Nevada has the WORST license plates fees in the country and
a ridiculous method for figuring value. No matter what you paid for the car, truck, or RV. They charge full retail value!
After 4 years, we are still paying $1,830.00 for license plates for a motor home. $260.00 for a 9 year old car and
$340.00 for a 7 year old car. No wonder everyone plates out
of state, it’s a pure rip off! Kudos to you Bob, for trying to
cut them in half. If that had worked maybe so many people wouldn’t be licensing in Oregon ($50 every 2 years and no sales tax), or Montana (no sales tax and low license plate fees). Our car and rv tax license feesl are are almost as high a our property taxes on a 1750 sq. ft. home in Sun City!
When this Grace Commission convenes lets take a meat cleaver to this rip off!

This is why I drive a 12 year old car and will continue to drive it until it disintegrates around me. It makes me wonder why the auto dealers didn’t support your effort to cut auto registration in half Bob. People like myself won’t buy new cars because of the outrageous registration fees.

Florida Has NO Income Tax And They don’t RIP-YOU OFF As Does Nevada On Tag Fees! Why Is that? Is It Because we Give away FREEBIES (School, housing,Medicaid,Hospital Birthing And Emergency Room Visits,Translation services,Prison space, etc Etc? To Illegal Aliens and their Children here in Nevada’? Lets Put a 20% To 30% Tax On ALL outgoing Money Orders To Mexico and Points South””’! Another Tax On Banks That allow Illegal aliens to Open accounts here In Nevada.Lets Put The Burden Of TAXES On The Illegal Aliens and His Family’s. Then…..We Won’t Get Screwed with these auto Tag Fee’s! When Is NEVADA Going To take the same approcah To Illegal aliens And Their Costs To American citizens The same Way Georgia,Oklahoma and Mo Does? Lets Put the TAX burden where it Belongs……..at the feet Of the ILLEGAL alien….He’s the One Jacking Up Our States cost $$ Of doing Business here in Nevada!

Everyone should beware and start to rally behind no taxes initiatives. As we have seen no amount of taxes are enough for a Government that has become a master to its people. Nevada and the Federal Government fall into this category. Until we effectively cut off the pipeline of money to these entities (both taxes and borrowing), we only face a future of more oppressive such Governments. If you think you are getting something for nothing, look what it got the residents of Germany. It is hard to watch this and not be moved.
