Porter Supporters Reunion Tour ‘07
March 15th, 2007Late today, I got a call from Congressman Jon Porter’s LV Office chief, former Metro Lt. Stan Olsen, with word that Cong. Porter will be giving a speech to the Legislature the first week of April. And he wants to put together a Porter Supporter reunion for after his speech.
Jon Porter was a rocker in his early adulthood. And during his first (and unsuccessful) run for Congress, I played bass for a group of political musicians who supported him. We called ourselves the Porter Supporters, and performed at a fundraiser at the Irish Pub at the Rampart Casino. Porter joined us on the piano.
On guitar and vocals - one Terri Murphy - the woman who ran the anti-TASC campaign last year on behalf of a consortium of governments and large government contractors. And the Porter Supporters reunion rehearsal will be at her house this weekend.
That, in my opinion, is one of the coolest things about diving into the political moshpit and trying to steer Nevada straight. At the end of the day, the 5pm whistle blows and we pitdancers drop our sharp elbows and are quite civil - even friendly - to one another. I think that’s because everyone in the moshpit has the same goal in mind - a stronger Nevada - we just differ on what our state needs to do to get there.
Musically, we all have day jobs. But on a slow song with no more than three chords, we really rock!

ROCK ON BOB! THANKS FOR YOUR BILLS, THE IMMIGRATION REFORM,
THE DMV TAX CUT, EVERYTHING YOU’VE PROPOSED INCLUDING TEACHERS WHO WANT TO CARRY GUNS TO ALLOW THEM TO TRULY REFLECT
THE VIEWS OF THE TAXPAYER. I DO APROVE OF THE BILL TO ALLOW
TOLL ROADS AS A WAY TO FUND THE HIGHWAYS. AND THANKS FOR SAYING THAT THIS 3.8 BILLION IN NEW TAXES NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT. ANOTHER SENATOR WHO PROPOSED A BALLOT INITIATIVE TO PICK WHICH TAXES WE WANT TO PAY (NONE) ADMITTED THAT THE SO CALLED BLUE RIBBON STUDY (LOL) HADN’T EVEN BEEN GONE OVER TO SEE IF THEIR TAX AND SPEND ASSUMPTIONS WER ON POINT. GETTING RID OF THE PREVAILING WAGE, UNION LABOR AND ALLOWING PRIVATE ENTERPRISE TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE WILL ALLOW US TO GET MORE ROADS ALOT FASTER WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY MORE EXHORBITANT TAXES. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, BOB!!!
