Max’s Meanderings: Eureka!!!

April 18th, 2006

Max and Little BitHi everyone!

I’ve decided to put my introduction at the end of this edition of my Meanderin’s. Most of you already know me and my little sister so I won’t bore you with all the details of how I came to be riding around the countryside in Mom & Dad’s RV.  Anyway, my name is Max.  Dad says I need to continue to send the folks more notes about my travels in their RV because he’s too busy to do it.  You and I know he’s lazy!  He’s only driving while I have to keep lookout and take naps.  Here’s a photo Dad caught of us two recently (I’m the “Morris Cat”).  I told him it wasn’t really representative since I do NOT sleep all the time but he insisted I show it to you anyway.

We left again on the campaign trail a week ago Sunday.  This time Bob and Kyle went with us and we ended up in Eureka Sunday night.  Bob and Kyle and Dad planned to explore several ghost towns on Monday but when we woke up that morning, guess what?  We had several inches of snow.4 Nevada in snowy Eureka

That kinda put the kibosh on any runnin’ around in the back country so we just hung out all day ‘till the Eureka County GOP Convention.  Here’s a shot of “4 Nevada” parked at the newly renovated Eureka Opera House where the convention was held.  Dad said it was a beautiful restoration job and it is the pride of this mining community.4 Nevada in front of the Eureka Opera House

Tuesday morning Bob’s boss flew him back to Las Vegas in his Mooney for another speaking engagement.  Mom, Kyle, Dad, and us two cats hurtled on down US 50 (The Loneliest Road In Nevada) to Reno where we met Bob Wednesday morning at an Economic Development meeting at which he spoke, along with the other 4 gubernatorial candidates.

Wednesday afternoon we all went to Gardnerville (about 45 miles south of Reno) where Bob spoke at the Douglas County Republican Women’s Club meeting.  Thursday morning we met Bob at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast in Sparks, Nevada (near Reno) after which we drove back to Minden, Nevada (next door to Gardnerville) where Bob spoke at the Douglas County GOP Convention.

Bob flew back to Las Vegas Friday morning and we headed south to Beatty, Nevada where we met Bob Saturday and he spoke to the Nye County GOP Convention.  Saturday night it was Home, Sweet Home!

Map of April 10th Trip Around NevadaMom still says the best part of these trips to Northern Nevada is meeting all the neat people.  She and Dad have met a lot of people and made a lot of new friends.  I told Dad to include them on my news letter.

Until we’re on the road again, probably next month on Bob’s campaign, see ya!

Max & Little Bit

PS Most of you met me when Mom & Dad sent a letter of mine from Oregon in September of 2000 when we picked up our new RV or from my letters from Yukon Territory and Alaska the Summer of 2001.  Others met me when Mom & Dad sent my letters from the Lewis & Clark Trail in the Summer of 2002, or Branson that Fall.  I introduced my new little sister, Little Bit (Yeah, we decided to keep her!) just after our trip to Carson City and the San Francisco Bay Area in the Spring of 2003.  And then some of you met Little Bit and me after dumb Dad broke his leg that June and scotched all our travel plans or when we finally got away to Branson for a couple of weeks in September of 2004.  I guess you heard about my osteosarcoma in April of 2005.  Well, I’m doing great on three legs and there’s no more evidence of cancer.  Great news!  I wrote again when Mom & Dad went to the Pacific North West for Dad’s 8th Grade Class 60th Reunion.  Then I wrote in early 2006 when we went to Chandler, Arizona so Mom & Dad could see a musical performance by several old Lawrence Welk performers.  Dad says the rest of 2006 will be tours through Nevada while Bob speaks to various communities.
