Tune In To George Knapp’s Water Expose
April 18th, 2008Thanks to George Knapp over at channel 8, who last week left a comment on the Beers blog reminding everyone about his hour-long special on Nevada water. It airs Sunday afternoon. Set your TIVOs.
The Southern Nevada Water Authority is one of the wealthiest government agencies in Nevada. For its last fiscal year, it increased the excess funds in its checkbook to over a half billion dollars, an amount greater than Nevada’s annual state budget shortfall. They’ve tried to keep this quiet by burying it on page six of this PDF document, itself buried toward the end of a 200+ page annual report.
Knapp’s story will discuss much more sensible and inexpensive solutions to quenching future thirsts of Clark County, ideas the Water Authority refuses to consider - instead insisting on draining pristine northern Nevada valleys through an as-yet unbuilt government pipeline project whose current underestimated cost is about equal to three times annual state tax revenues.
Knapp’s show will air Sunday afternoon at 4pm on channel 8.

We, of course, have many other worthwhile ideas to make water
from the air, recycle water to return 99% back to pristine condition and other ‘green solutions’. Bob told me that the
state gets credits for dumping waste water from existing
water recycling into Lake Mead. This whole thing needs to
be reworked. Draining water from Northern Nevada is too expensive both monetarily and environmentally.

No draining water from Northern Nevada by the Water district mismanagement thieves

As usual Corporate America rules the country. Our water authority is small compared to many Corporations out there running and directing what is going to happen here in America. I am not a fan of Government control to where we become robotic servants but I think it is about time that our State and Federal Governments do more to control these autonomous enterprizes. Citizens are suppose to be served by government and not left to the mercies(if any)of the Business World here in America.

I would love to see Pat’s Pet Project analyzed from an objective perspective with all alternatives laid on the table and each examined as to their respective viability. There’s obviously a motive to the construction of Pat’s Pipeline that is not public knowledge, and I doubt it has anything to do with water. However, I can handle the Knappster’s pompous arrogance about as long as it takes me to turn the channel. Good idea; wrong medium.

Looking forward to it, George (can I watch it anyother time?)
At one water meet where ranting & whining about the mussels, imported somewhere in mid East, I asked what was done with them there, since seemed they’d been there(sorry, don’t recall the Sea) since Bibical times.
The exteemed Dr. was speechless several moments, then said that would need to be studied. GEORGE, IN NOMINATE YOU AS OUR INVESTIGATOR from NV water Authority to spend 9-12 mos or ? to determine an answer before another cent is spent collecting and discussing these creatures as though they came from outerspace.
GEORGE, PLEASE HELP GET FLUORIDATION OF CLARK C. WATER STOPPED. Bless you, and THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I watch the program and also I trust in wisdom of Senator Beers.
I am against the plan to drain water from northern Nevada.
I think buying ranches and farms in CA should be studied first.

Unfortunately I missed Knapp’s program, however I have one suggestion for water authorities:
Stop filling the “Lake at Las Vegas” with potable water supply sources. Fill it with the Las Vegas wash run-off water instead of piping the wash run-off beneath the lake on it’s course to Lake Meade.
