I think the issues with public education are more fundemental than whether we have illegals in classes, or the source of funding for educattion. While both are very big issues, I think it comes down to just how well are the schools serving the public? Are our education dollars being spent wisely? Do our students leave school better or worse prepared to meet the challenges of our society? I tend to think that most (or all) of these questions could be answered in the negative.

A friend of mine is a school administrator in the CCSD, and is paid VERY well. Further, he stated recently to me that his school has not been harmed in the slightest by the governor's budget cuts because they have received a large amount of funding from federal government grants and private grants.

I have always believed that those who work for our school system tend to be some of the most well paid in the nation. I also believe that our schools are very well funded - probably overly so. This recent "grab" by the teacher's unions to raise the gaming tax will do nothing more than kill the golden goose. For education professionals, they are sorely lacking in their understanding of economics.

The gaming tax rate in Nevada may, on its face, appear to be a very low rate. On the contrary, the gaming industry pays a good chunk in taxes. The gaming tax is a gross receipts tax, which when viewed as a percentage of the bottom line is actually a very HIGH percentage. Casinos must pay all other expenses after the state gets its cut. I have a strange feeling that if this passes, our well meaning teachers are going to find that their funding is significantly less than they were expecting because they will have driven smaller casinos out of business. Further, the money collected as a result of this insane tax hike will come in the form of job losses, and a lot less construction than we see now. If they really want to kill the economy in southern Nevada, this is a great way to start!

Schools are funded primarily through property taxes. They should be funded through a sales tax. I elected not to have children but am forced to help pay for someone who has a hundred. We have children who receive free breakfast and lunch. What happen with the food stamps? Why do we get stuck with the school bus tab? And the big Question how many teachers would we need if our schools did not have illegal emigrants?

What we really need is more "pay as you go". When people vote with their dollars individually, you create a great national power like the US through about 1913. When Governments vote with the people's dollars, you get the society of Nazi Germany and North Korea (to name two). People are much more sensable individually than they are in groups or through a large Government.

Again, if you like "illegal aliens" in our schools, whip out the checkbook and sponsor a few. Otherwise, shut up.

It is intersting to note that less illegals are flooding our borders as the economy gets bad. There is a hint here. OK, I will point it out: illegals like "free stuff" as much as we do.

Finally it appears that the LEGAL US citizens voice is being heard and the ILLEGALS are headed south. How about we send the
bill for all of our losses to Mexico?

I think the very large reduction in new illegal immigrate children has generated an across the board large decrease in the growth of school enrollment in many states. Therefore, the need for new teachers will be greatly reduced in the coming years.

Uncontrolled illegal immigration was damaging our schools.

We just could not keep up with growth of children who did not know how to speak English.
