Reports of TASC’s Ohio Death Premature…
May 19th, 2006Jon Ralston sure had me going this morning. He wrote in his “Flashpoint” that that TASC is over in Ohio. He says the fellow bringing it in Ohio, Ken Blackwell (who came from behind to win the Republican nomination for Governor), is withdrawing the amendment initiative because he is afraid it will lead to widespread Republican defeat in Ohio.
Sheesh! That makes no sense, I thought, since polling shows Democrat voters love TASC just as much as Republican ones! Moderate fiscal responsibility is not a partisan issue.
So I checked out Ken Blackwell’s website. It turns out its inevitability has convinced Ohio’s Legislature to enact TASC in law in hopes of avoiding it being written into the Constitution, and that Blackwell has agreed to ask the Committee running the initiative to withdraw the amendment - IF legislative leaders who’ve capitulated actually enact a legislative version sometime in the next few weeks.
