Bob Beers for Governor

Sneaky Devils Poke Pitchforks

May 21st, 2008

“Opposition Research” is where a campaign tries to find “dirt” on the opponent. It’s the sign of a weak candidate… one who cannot stand on her own accomplishments, and must disparage their opponent rather than market their own suitability for office.

And, as much as people have told me to prepare, it’s still strange when it happens to you.

Today, I learned that my opponent has hired a Washington “dirty tricks” company to investigate my background. I learned this because the Nevada Board of Accountancy, which licenses and regulates Certified Public Accountants, has received a demand for everything in it’s files about me over my 20 year career as a Nevada CPA.

There’s nothing untoward in it, of course. But it’s still weird to learn that sneaky devils are making a file on you.

In the end, I imagine they will have to lie and distort my record in order to get the rise they hope for from the voters of Senate District 6.

Well, when reporters can only come up with adjectives like “nice” and “sunny” to describe a candidate rather than “intelligent” and “experienced,” said candidate has to grasp at straws. I think she’s a phony.

What can you do to fight back? What can I do to help?!

She may be a weak candidate, but don’t underestimate the power of money and political party clout running a weak candidate. Just look who we have as a governor! (Sorry, I know he’s the right party, but let’s face it, this guy is not real deep and in my mind is the epitome of “weak candidate”.)

Sad, but this is what we have come to. It is what we get for trusting the operation of our Government to gullible people. I admire you for sticking to your principals over the years, and would advocate the same in the future. I know I am in the minority here, but keeping your honest, straightforward and moral approach to reelection is the right way to go. It hurts and keeps many statesmen out of leadership rolls in all levels of Government, but, underhanded, childish behavior seems to be what the population wants. Our elections and political process has degenerated to a third-grade class without a teacher mentality. Campaigns are “fought” by children trying to make fun of a classmate (how can you describe the presidential campaign as anything else?). I really do not believe a thinking, caring voter has enough peers to make a difference anymore. Certainly the “winning” candidates do not even cater to them. There are no issues discussed, only “hopeful” pablum of Nirvana. Spin is the name of the game and there are enough people to fall for it that no thinking is required anymore. It may as well be a gladiator contest in ancient Rome as entertaining as it is. Honest people simply do not stand a chance. You have to be underhanded to “win”, but the saddest thing is that we now live in a country where that tactic works.

I advocate sticking to your morals and ideals. Keep the people and the long-term health of our society in the forefront, just as you always have. If you lose, you can keep your head high. I know that is little consolation, but, from my perspective, there is no other choice. You have a pretty solid base and a great track record where it counts, Bob. Keeping your job should never take precedence over doing things right by the people. Henry Clay, a second place finisher in 4 presidential elections said it best: “I’d rather be right than be president”. Thank God we still have some Henry Clays left in the world and, even better, we have at least one willing to take on the dragons still. Keep swinging for the fences, Bob, but without the steroids and corked bats your opponent obviously is using. In the long run, it will prevail where it means the most…..in your soul.

There’s an old rule among lawyers:when you have a strong case, argue the facts;when you have a weak case, attack the witness.Guess the same thing holds true in politics.

Having known you for the last few years, I am certain they won’t be able to find anything. I am very scared about the
Democratic push to take over Nevada. Just take a look at the
back room deal pushed by Barbara Buckley cooked between a few casino owners and the teachers union. This move spits in the face of the taxpayers as they manuver a run around the Nevada
constitution to impose new taxes. Lord help us all!

    Bob
Followed you in the Gov. race liked what I heard and saw of you. Thought you were right on the issues facing the state then and now. I want to THANK YOU for sticking to your core values. If you here in the north I would go door to door on your behalf. When you run for Gov. again,
which I hope you do I’ll be able to do it! I am a native of this state and see that little by little this state is going to brink of bank rup. because gov’t at all levels is getting too damn big and the rank and file wants the vote and they will do anything to get it. Even if it means destroying those that made this a great place to live and visit. Don’t let the BAS…DS drag you down. Just keep fighting for what is right and history will be your best friend. Hope others wake up soon ! Mel

  9. William Tomany Says:

Bob I’m sick of dirty political tricks. Just stick to your ethics and beat her soundly

    Regards
    Bill

This type of action can be killed very easily. Here in Nevada we are supposed to have citizen legislators. Let’s do just that. Term limit them out of office and further participation in for a set period of time in any other office. Yes, I know, we will have to occassionly throw a keeper back in the pool from time to time although not as often as we would like to think.
