Solar Breakthrough May Lower Power Bill

June 13th, 2006

Our current state government policy on alternative energy sources is essentially a tax, spent by Sierra Pacific Power in a manner hoped to stimulate commercial activity in producing power too expensive for rational purchasers to want. The “tax” comes in the form of higher power bills paid by all Nevadans, as Sierra Pacific passes along the higher cost on 15% of its portfolio, which the legislature has mandated be “alternative.”

This is one of the most aggressive such programs in America.
