Could You Use An Extra $1,326?
July 16th, 2008That’s how much Nevada’s taxes per person have increased from 2003 to 2008. That’s not your tax bill, mind you - just Nevada’s tax hikes per person. Multiply that by the number of people who live in your house to calculate how much money your household has lost to state and local tax hikes over the past five years.
Nevada ranks third, by the way, behind New Jersey and Connecticut.
The data is amongst the many nuggets included in the Americans For Tax Reform “Cost of Government Day” collection - published because this week marks the day when the average American has earned enough of his or her annual salary to pay all of his or her share of the cost of Government.
For Nevadans, Cost of Government day is actually a little later than the National Cost of Government Day due to our tax hikes this decade and our growth from a below-average government cost state to an above-average government cost state.

I have been searching for a house to buy in Henderson and my price target is $250,000. The majority of houses that I have looked at have an annual tax bill of $3,600 or more. I’m looking at a payment of around $1,900 per month and about ONE SIXTH of that will be for property taxes!

If Dina Taxitus had her way we’d be paying a lot more! The sad thing is, she’s running for Congress where she hopes to join the other Libs to tax us more and more!

Some time ago (early this year, late last year), the RJ had an article about the impact that illegal immigrants have on social services including education. They concluded that there was no meaningful data on this because the providers of these services (all public employees) give the impression that they have no interest whatsoever in tracking this information. I wouldn’t be surprised that if the accurate numbers were forthcoming, the general public would quickly figure out how the state and county could save money and demand appropriate action! Of course this action would probably result in an increase of the unemployment rate.
