Live Earth Spews Carbon
August 3rd, 2007Slightly paraphrasing PJ O’Rourke, putting politicians and rock stars in charge of global warming is like putting teenage boys in charge of whiskey and car keys,. The heady media attention around the Live Earth concerts lead to predictable heady media results - and a massive outpouring of pollution.
Check out John Buckley in this article in the Daily Mail over on the European Continent. Sorry for the great distance, but no journalist on this content will give Buckley the time of day, although he is a renowned specialist in calculating energy consumption and carbon emissions for the website www.carbonfootprint.com.
Buckley determined that the recent Live Earth concerts to promote awareness of climate change (indisputable) and mankind’s role in it (no evidence anywhere) actually produced over 30,000 metric tonnes of carbon emissions. That’s not counting the people who drove to the concert venues, and not counting the televisions tuned in to watch it.
John Rego, environmental director for Live Earth, was supposed to make the event “carbon neutral.” He developed a plan to fund a reforestation project in Mozambique to offset what he’d calculated as Live Earth emissions of 3,000 metric tonnes - about one-tenth of the actual emissions.
