Bill Raggio Should Read This Blog

October 26th, 2007

According to the Las Vegas Sun, Bill Raggio thinks it’s premature to consider budget cuts, but a fine time to consider increasing taxes. I sure wish he read my blog, especially this entry which features the Tax Foundation describing Nevada’s local, state and federal taxation (and spending) as within the top 10% in America.

Raggio has turned out to be the worst RINO in the legislature. It’s obvious he doesn’t want to see any cuts, he is hoping by stalling the governors decision that tax receipts will grow so no cut back will be necessary. How do we get him out of office?

Bill has a long and successful record in our state government and is due the rest that comes from such. He is entitled to and is expected to voice his opinion and argue his point. I do not accept his arguments in this case and I am surprised he has taken this stand but he wouldn’t be any good to us if he just rolled over without an argument. The fact is the State can make the cuts. As a previous state employee I saw all kinds of waste. Our office was over staffed, had far more supervisors than necessary and constant committees and small group meetings. Many employees spent more time sitting around talking than working. Time, material and resources were wasted like there was no end to it. I believe every state agency should have to prove the necessity of their programs at least every five years. There is too little oversight, too many non essential programs and internal activities. State government could probably cut 10% if they would. The problem is while they continue with their waste they try to cut in the most popular and needed areas so it looks bad.

  3. Don Parker Says:

    Q. Why do state employees spend their afternoons staring out the window?

    A. Because if they stared out the window in the morning, they wouldn’t have anything to do the rest of the day.

Bill Raggio is wrong when he says the governor shouldn’t ask for cuts. Bill Raggio is right when he says to cut the expansion of the all day kindergarten and empowerment programs that shouldn’t have been expanded in the first place.
We should never have passed them nor the $2M for a children’s museum, the $500K for a super gym in carson city and other
silly pork projects. There is no time like the present to cut back before things go bad. Any person with a household budget
is forced to cut back when times are lean. This applies to
government as well. I would prefer to see a cutback of 10%
accross the board and a 50% for Rogers and Raggios pet project
higher education which should not be funded by the taxpayers in the first place. Kudos to the state employee above who tells it like it is!

  5. Lee S Gliddon Jr Says:

Tax hikes on the citizens of Las Vegas is not only fooliash but it is wrong. As a Republican I am against most taxes as more money in state coffers results in more ‘pork’ style spending.
The business of Las Vegas and our State is gaming. We read constant news about record breaking profits topping almost $1BILLION monthly!
The employees of the Casinos certainly do not earn enough to pay more taxes. As a retired person I do not earn enough to pay more taxes. None of the folks I talk with daily are in a position to pay more taxes. So…I think the burden of taxes should be bourne by those who make the most from our visitoras! Hmmm
Casinos own their properties. They make TONS from out of State visitors. Maybe a fair tax on the money earned from out-of-state visitors would pay the tab! Now that’s a thought!
