How Much Does A Principal Make?

November 14th, 2007

The Clark County School District offers a chart showing how much CCSD administrators get paid.

Seventeen rows and seven columns. What are all those rows and columns?

That starting range for assistant principals in elementary schools is step 40. Elementary principals run from step 41 to 44. Yet the chart includes rows for steps 36, 37, 38 and 39 - rows that suggest lower pay than is possible.

Meanwhile, in order to be an assistant principal you must old at least a masters’ degree. Column E is for people with a Masters’. Column F is a Masters’ plus 32 additional credit hours and Column G is a PhD.  The first four columns - once again, suggesting lower pay - should not be on the chart since they are for levels of academia too low to qualify someone to be an administrator.

You’d think if it was a random accident, at least one of the meaningless rows or columns would mistakenly suggest higher pay than was possible.  Are steps 36-40 and columns A-D just smoke screens?

Disclosing how much principals make is not difficult. The Washoe County School District does it with actual clarity.

WHEW!!!! I hope Babs Buckley doesn’t find out that the Prime Minister of England receives #1: 127,334 English lbs/year as Prime Minister and #2: 60,277 English lbs. per year as a Member of Parliament….”BABS LOGIC”> (whining)Aren’t our School Adminstrators more important to our children” than the Prime Minister of England? I can’t find a logical comparison-but I’m sure BABS can!!!! Charley Carpenter

When I went to school, teaching was a calling. Teachers actually knew that the development of youth was their life’s work. Now teaching is a business replete with unions, management and all the waste that that implies. The development of youth is now considered an antiquated notion by many educators. World War II is now covered in four hours in BCHS World History class. How can today’s students understand our values and form of government when such a pivotal event as WW II is so trivialized?
