Nevada Tops In Tax Hikes

December 3rd, 2007

Our political leaders sometimes suggest that Nevada is at the “bottom of all the good lists” and “top of all the bad lists,” and that they want to tax us out of this statistical black hole.

Here is a list we’re at the top of - tax hikes per person from 2002-2007.

Another sign that Nevada is cranking taxes up on its citizens comes from the Tax Foundation. In 1999, Nevadans faced a 9.3 percent burden on their income from state and local taxes. In 2007, we face a 10.1 percent burden, an increase over those eight years of 8.6 percent. In the same period, the average state and local tax burden across the country went from 10.5 percent of income to 11 percent, a burden increase of 4.8 percent. We’ve been cranking up taxes, on average, twice as hard and fast as other states.

Thank you Senator Beers for keeping us updated on your blog. Oh, that others would be so proactive and thoughtful!

  2. Jim Nance Says:

The Las Vegas Sun and Titus should lead protest and riots to demand a special session to past various new taxes, like a state income tax. They should have a goal of raising the level of state tax revenue by 50%.

  3. Timothy M. Says:

Hey Jim Nance. If you are not making a joke, you must be a Democrat that is on the public dole. Is it walfare or section 8?
Anyone in their right mind sure as hell wouldn’t want to be giving up 50% of their hard earned money in taxes. Ask the big wigs in Washington to cut their take home pay and see what they tell you. Ask them to vote themselves into the Social Security system and see what they tell you.
Most all of the men and women in the political arena go there just to get rich and to cover their butts when they retire. If they ever do retire. The only way you get them out of office is when they die.
Wake up America! Start taking back what is yours! It is time to vote with your pocket book and not what they promise you.
