How Much Is Enough?

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

The Review Journal has published an editorial I wrote about tomorrow’s budget summit being held up in Carson City. In it, I argue:

Nevadans are taxed enough
Nevadans have had taxes hiked more than almost every other US state this decade
Nevada’s government is well funded, although not very well distributed between competing government services.

LVCVA Funding

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Governor Gibbons has proposed taking a portion of future growth in room tax proceeds to increase spending on Southern Nevada highway projects. A Reno attorney of my acquaintance sends out a daily email newsletter for his clients that included this article on Nevada’s Medicaid system:
Nevada Medicaid: Nevada’s Medicaid program was ranked 40th in the nation in a report released Wednesday, registering particularly low scores in the quality of care and the percentage of the […]

Ten Years Gone

Monday, February 26th, 2007

I hear it’s been more than a decade since the Nevada Department of Transportation stopped doing cost-benefit analysis on projects. Most states use this technique to prioritize its projects, but Nevada suspended the practice. I hope to find out why when I meet with DOT officials later this week.
In the meantime, here is the Federal […]
