Education Spending Makes Mail

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I woke up to find this in my inbox this morning…
Senator Beers:
It probably comes as no surprise that I am writing to you to express my disappointment that you have not come out against the Governors mandated 4.5% budget cuts for education. Already mired at or near the bottom of the national list in […]

Empowerment Schools See Stormy Horizon

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

Governor Gibbons called it the “Washington Monument” phenomenon. Unprofessional government managers, who have lost sight of their actual mission (to reduce inefficiencies in the most inefficient pursuit known to mankind) and replaced it with self-service (to increase funding for their program no matter what), react to not being able to spend as much as they […]

Nevada Tops In Tax Hikes

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

Our political leaders sometimes suggest that Nevada is at the “bottom of all the good lists” and “top of all the bad lists,” and that they want to tax us out of this statistical black hole.
Here is a list we’re at the top of - tax hikes per person from 2002-2007.

Nevada Ed Spending Ranks 37th

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

Nevada doesn’t rank 47th, 48th or 49th in education spending, as proponents of higher taxing and spending claim.
We actually rank 37th in education spending - at least we ranked 37th for the 2004/2005 school year anyway. That is the latest data from the National Center for Education Statistics run by the federal government. This is […]

Budget Cut From White Pine County

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

A reader emailed in a good idea for saving some state budget money.
SNWA bought those ranches in south Spring Valley and they are tax exempt. The former owner/ranchers paid taxes, and that was why their road was paved and maintained by NDOT. You see my point.
Let the road revert to dirt […]

Budget Blues Moving Up The Charts

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

The New York Times reports the Mayor of the Big Apple has requested his department heads prepare plans to spend less than budgeted, just like what’s happening here in Nevada. An interesting contrast is in the media’s treatment… as well as the lack of anybody suggesting tax hikes as the answer.
It is the first time […]

Bill Raggio Should Read This Blog

Friday, October 26th, 2007

According to the Las Vegas Sun, Bill Raggio thinks it’s premature to consider budget cuts, but a fine time to consider increasing taxes. I sure wish he read my blog, especially this entry which features the Tax Foundation describing Nevada’s local, state and federal taxation (and spending) as within the top 10% in America.
